HELP!!! Hydraulic Clutch Won't Disengage!!!!
My clutch won't disengage???? It's the last hurdle to me getting her on the road. Took the bellhousing apart, disc is in correctly, but the throwout was out and had to be physically ushed back in!
What would cause this? Is it safe to assume (term used loosely) that it won't happen again. Any way to test it? I have tons of hydraulic pressure. Help me get on the road!!!!!! Ren Man |
You didn't say, but I'm assuming that you are using a self-contained hydraulic throwout bearing, like a Tilton or Mcleod.
If that is the case, you need to put a pedal stop on your clutch pedal to keep too much of the fluid from the master cylinder from going to the throwout bearing, which pushes it out of its own housing. You can make a pedal stop by putting a bolt with 2 nuts (for adjustment) through your pedal box or firewall, and adjusting it so that you just get enough movement to feel the clutch fingers over-center. I have a more detailed info sheet from Tilton, if you need it. BIGMIKE |
Mike,
Thanks for the reply. Yes, it is a McLeod. I could use the details if you don't mind? Regards, Ren Man |
Problem is how do you tell if your pedal is going too far? I could understand if the clutch pedal went to the floor but, I don't have any pedal at all....I'm only pushing in an inch or so now and the pedal is rock hard. Even if the shifter is in Neutral it still squeals like a pig when started???
I don't think we have too much pedal travel and I rechecked the distance to the fingers on the pressure plate and the readings are dead on for what the hydraulic bearing was built for??? HELP!!!:confused: |
RenMan;
Sorry it took so long to send this to you, my scanner was defunctive. This may help, may not. Tilton could be a bit different from Mcleod. I'm wondering the bore size of your master cylinder. It may be way too large. Also, you may have air in the system. I think Mcleod has a web page. I've talked to the about their trans adapters, so I should have their phone number around. I'll check for both and get right back to you. BigMike P.S. File is too big to attach. Send me an E-mail and I'll send it back to you. mbell@merit.com |
YO, BigMike here again.
Mcleod's web page is www.mcleodind.com. Tech line is (714) 630-3668 Hope that helps. BigMike |
