head gaskets

I have a set of Ford head gaskets (made by FelPro). It looks like there are several water passages that are greatly restricted or blocked. Am I supposed to cut my own holes?

Pat;
Do not modify the gaskets, just make sure you put them on right. They should be marked as to the which end goes to the the front. One will look like it is on upside down, but that is the way is supose to go.

Thanks Poorboy. It just looks odd seeing all of those large holes in the heads and block and holes in the gasket about the size of a small paper hole punch. The holes at the rear of the gasket are larger that the ones at the front.

D'oh!

We actually tried to modify the head gaskets in just the way I bet you were thinking about when we did our first 351 build-up. Before heading to the trusty "How to rebuild the Smallblock Ford" book, we determined that the gaskets were not meant to be modified, simply by virtue of how hard it was to cut them! :o

It's done. The heads are on. It's actually starting to look like an engine.
