sidepipe assembly
Does anyone have any knowledge of sidepipe construction? I have a set of sidepipes that are unassembled. The inserts are not in the tubes. Before I install the inserts, I need to know if I should wrop them with something like ceramic or fiberglass. If so, where do I get such material. Any other tips on construction. The pipes are great, but I don't want to put them together incorrectly. Please help!!!

Welcome to CC.
If the inserts are perforated tubes, you'll definately want to wrap them. Otherwise, they won't do much muffling. As far as the material, I'm not sure what to use but I'm sure someone here will be able to help. I've heard of some muffler makers using a stainless steel wool or mesh. I'd think it would resist breaking up and blowing out better than fiberglass. I've had glasspacked silencers on a couple of bikes, and they eventually got very noisy as the packing disintegrated. Yep, stainless wool is the answer, try suppliers of tuneable and rebuildable racing mufflers. Pegasus, Jegs, Summit etc.
Good hunting, tack it, check it, check it again then weld. Cheers Nick |
