Jag rear - emergency brake problem
I have a HIGH TECH Cobra. I bought it used. It has a Jaguar rear.
the emergency brake will not hold and it seems that the cable and adjuster are worn out. Would anyone know where I could order a new cable assy? With HIGH TECH being out of business, I do not know what to order or where to order Bruce Sahw |
A High-tech with inboard brakes?

Hello Bruce,
The Jag rear end with the inboard brakes has a separate set of calipers for the emergency brake. The cable set is available from a number of diferent vendors. I bought the calipers rebuilt from ERA, Bob Putnam may be able to help. I tried to find the shop here in the Modesto area that I bought mine from but, it has been a while and obviously I have killed too many brain cells with Red wine. Perhap one of the other folks on the forum will respond. Bruce - has the handbrake (sorry, UK term) suddenly stopped working? If so, you may find that the friction material pad on one of the handbrake calipers has separated from it's metal backing and popped out of its proper place. If that is the case, a new set of handbrake pads will correct the problem. it could be nothing to do with the cable/adjuster assembly.
This happened to me after a particularly "brisk" track day!! The heat generated in the inboard discs was enough to "unstick" the handbrake pads. If you do find this to be the problem, take care to seat the handbrake pad securing bolts properly, and don't do them up too tight - use thread locker on them instead. HTH Wilf |
I'm with Bob, a Hi-Tech with a Jag Rear??? I thought they only used their own custom 9" independent rear.

Hello Bruce,
Use the Search capability in the Club Cobra pull down Member/Visitor tools. Put in Parking Brake as the search criteria and you will bring up a lot of information. If you look at my posting from Nov. 1999 the company I was looking for is Gennie Brakes. Here is the link to their site. http://www.hotrodhotline.com/gennie/index.html#brake Good Luck, Tony R. |
