Ford Power Steering Rack part #
I have a Ford (stamped in the casing) power steering rack which needs replacing, the number on the casing is G 26 TFC 2, i cannot find a reference to this number in any of the dozens of places i've searched...Does anybody have any idea as to how to locate a replacement for this item...any direction would be much appreciated.....

That is not a part number. FYI most of the Ford power steering racks used in Cobra Replicas are sourced from 74-78 Mustang II.

I have attached a photo as requested, i also removed the band around the rack, the number on it is U788 1089, does this help anyone at all

yes it's a Ford rack....measure the mounting bolt distances and if you get the measurement i posted its mustang II....

Does not look bulky enough to be a mustang II - could be escort ....
As the others have stated , some measurements and turns lock to lock would help to unravel the origin - |
Doesn't look like a M2 to me either. Looks closer to the rack I had in a 1984 Mustang. The newer racks have a cast housing. This is steel 2 piece design.

If memory serves me right the Mustang II racks with Power Steering had 3 mounting points and those without had 2 mounting points, similar to the ill fated Pinto, which is the same design and can be used, but the ratio is pretty slow.

i guess your memory isn't serving you....even from 4 posts ago. factory mustang II has 3 mounting flanges whether its power or manual. pinto clamps on....2 spots.... a pic from the top is not good enough for a determination. the crossmember looks like it is a factory ford mustang II. it is a ford rack.............. it may or my not be mustang II. to measure the mounting will tell you if it is or isn't it is not Fox body mustang or late model t-bird.. |
