Occasional Coolant Drip - need advise
Hey Gang
Need your thoughts on a very occasional and minor coolant drip (but it drives me nuts). Have a Roush 427sr in my Daytona Coupe. About 4,500 miles on it. On occasion I will get an antifreeze drip. It appears to only do it after the car has sat for many weeks (like 4 or more) or over the winter and it will drip a little after starting. Drops. Not a puddle. Not continuous. When I am regularly driving the car (every week or two) it is dry as a bone. I have checked and tightened all connections. The drip appears on the bottom of the harmonic balancer. So where ever it starts it finds its way to the balancer and then onto the drip pan. No issues with overheating, steaming, etc. My guess given, the scenario, is that the water pump from sitting develops a flat spot where fluid can drip out and once warmed up and driven routinely it properly seals. Would this make sense? Thanks! Jeff |
Put this in your coolant and then, from time to time, put the UV light on the water pump area, the hoses, the bypass hose, and when you see the glow, you will have found it. It's totally harmless to leave in there, btw (unless you're using Dex-Cool).

My Roush 427 SR did the same thing .... until I replaced the water pump gaskets and the Dex Cool antifreeze.

does your coolant cap allow air back into the system? when it cools to below it's previous relaxed state it might be pulling air into the system through the water pump shaft gasket allowing coolant out, just a thought, don't know if it is possible. after that i'd go for the waterpump.

Either Bars Leaks or GM coolant leak-stop pellets. The OE's use them and they're about permanent.
