Unique trunk revision
A question...
Here's a picture of the bulkhead between the passenger compartment and the trunk in my Unique 427SC. In the next post, there's a picture of Todds' car where he moved this bulkhead back and created a shelf behind the seats. I would like to do this for a couple of reasons: 1) create some storage space 2) to mount some shoulder harnesses to the frame without having to thread them through this wall. Does anyone know if this wall is a structural component? Would moving this wall back compromise the integrity of the rear deck? Rich |

The best way to answer your question would be to call Alan or Maurice at Unique. However, after building a few Unique's, I think that I can safely say that you can remove that portion of the panel. It doesn't appear to be structural and is very thin. Its only purpose appears to be is a separator between the passenger compartment and the trunk. Its also pretty useful to stick the carpet to. If you are worried, you can always bond in a steel hoop hidden out of the way. Take care, Bruce |
I asked Alan if that panel was part of the structure as I wanted to cut it and install speakers. He told me it wasn't part of the structure. You could always ask him. :JEKYLHYDE

The bulkhead is not part of cars structure and you can modify it like you want. I would not modify the rollbar mount as it looks like Todd has. Poorboy |

Poorboy, I won't modify the roll bar mounts. My plan is to move the wall back and add some 'H' shoulder harness type mounting points to the frame. Rich |
