MSD distributor vacuum advance problems

Using MSD distributor w/ vacuum advance. 351W motor.

This is the smaller diameter, pre-HEI cap style. As car is mostly street I like to retain the vacuum advance for part throttle cruise economy.

Nice piece of work, this MSD. Evferything is adjustable except the vacuum advance. Running 12 degrees lead, plus 20 degrees mechanical for 32 degrees total timing. Vacuum kicks in another 20 degrees for 52 degrees total and the engine starts missing badly. Unplug the vacuum hose to the distributor and the engine runs fine.

I need to reduce the vacuum advance to 8 - 12 degrees.

Any of you experience this? There are adjustable vacuum advance modules, Crane is one. Which one is used on the MSD?
