Air cleaner for 427 SO?
Guys, this must be a dumb question, but I just got an oval 1-4V air cleaner assembly, put it on, and it doesn't clear the hood on my ERA...what are you guys running for air cleaners? I guess I need something with a drop base...14"? I have Edelbrock heads and Performer II intake.

Don't bother with the oval air cleaner or the turkey pan unless you have to have one. They are very restictive (25-50 hp). I have the same car, heads, and intake you do. I run a drop base 14" like you stated. Works great.

Okay, okay...I threw in the towel and went to a K&N drop base (1 1/4" drop), with a 3" x 14" element and the X-Stream lid...it fits, with a shopping 1/4" clear at the hood. I'm still researching. Chevrolet made a deep drop base for corvettes (more than 1 1/4") that may work, does Ford Motorsport make a deep drop base, maybe even with a chrome "Ford Motorsports" lid? Maybe I can then go to a 4" element...
