Toploader question

I know that the big block transmissions have a shorter input shaft than the small block variety--but what about 429-460's? A local is building a kit with a 429 TBird motor and has a small block toploader to use. His motor is very mild, so strength is not a problem, but will he have to shorten the input shaft by the .350 inch difference in the bb and sb styles??

Your best bet is talk with the man who knows them inside-out, literally. David Kee of David Kee's Toploader Transmissions, Inc.
He is at www.4speedtoploaders.com.

Check the depth to the bottom of the crankshaft. If the input shaft does not bottom out don't cut it. My 429 had about a 1/2" of clearance from the tip of the input shaft.
