Electric Fan hookup
I am reinstalling my radiator and hooking up fans. I have the large fan on the outside of the radiator set-up to blow towards the engine. I also have a small fan on the back (engine side) of the radiator blowing out (toward the other fan). Is this the correct setup? I was driving today in 70 degree weather and the temp seemed a little high at about 210 degrees (I'm running a 185 degree thermostat).

my understanding is the outside fan(s) are "pushers" and blow the fresh air thru the radiator from outside towards engine. Conversely, the inside fan(s) should be 'pullers' and pulling the air from the outside of the car thru the radiator. You should be able to correct the inside fan to be a 'puller' by reversing your electrical connections which should reverse the air flow/direction of the fan blades. . Bill.

Bill, is correct about the "pusher" & "puller" info however, depending on the fan that you are using you may cause damage to the fan motor or electronics by reversing the wiring. It's best to check with the manufacturer for info on changing a pusher to a puller. Here is a link to Flex-a-lite's fans webs site FAQ section. In your current situation, your fans are working against themselves! Air flow should only go one direction. If you are not worried about looking original, a puller set-up is more effecient. Until you get this sorted out, unhook one or the other, so the air goes through your radiator in one direction, from the front of the car, rearward. Dave |
Whoa!!! Take out the 'pusher' you have on the back side and run the pusher you have mounted to the front by itself, or better yet, put the large fan behind the radiator as a puller--much cleaner. The way you describe it, you're fans are stalling one another!;)

Reversing fan
There is a general misconception that simply reversing the wires on the fan motor will achieve the desired effect. This is only true if the curviture of the fan blades is designed for bi-directional use. This is not always the case and sometimes requires that the blade (impellor) be pulled off the shaft and replaced the other way.

Thanks all for the replys. The guy I purchased the car from had both front and rear fans as pushers. Corrected now.
