460 Crate Motors
 
HI, I AM NEW AND I WILL BUYING A SPF COBRA....FOR WEEKEND USE HERE IN WICHITA, KANSAS....BUT WHICH FORD CRATE MOTOR SHOULD I BUY FOR THE SPF???

THE 460/486HP???
THE 460?535HP???

OR- THE 514/600HP???

Bill - welcome and good luck with your selection.

First - there are hundreds of posts on this subject for your reference. Check out the search function. Another gentleman posted the same last week.

Second - are you committed to a BB? If so I would get the max you can afford...however, above 600hp, IMO, has dimminishing returns for the street. Many guys are happy with the 485hp version. I have the 565hp version. Plenty of power.

I've have not heard about any problems with crate motors to speak of. Understand the warrantee is limited (90 days) compared to a customer (usually 1yr).

The 460 block fits nicely..but tight. Be prepared to change a couple of the spark plugs from underneath.

If you are not committed to BB, many guys are very happy with stroked SBs.
