Water lines
I am just about to finnish my 460, but I have a few coolant line that I haven't been able to figure out yet. Does anyone have any pictures of the front of a 460 showing what the hoses go to? Any help would be great.
Thanks, Bran |
Hopefully you aren't talking about radiator hoses! (Sorry, I couldn't resist). Are you running a heater?? The stock set up, ie, with a heater, has 5 hoses:
1: Upper Radiator 2: Lower Radiator 3: Bypass. This is a short, straight hose that goes from the manifold to the back of the water pump. A piece of 5/8" hose about 2.25" long. 4: Heater inlet. Comes off of the nipple on the water pump. 5: Heater Outlet. Comes off of an 'L' fitting on the front of the manifold, close to where the inlet is. If you don't run a heater, block off the manifold with a 1/2" NPT plug. The water pump inlet is a good place to put a fitting to pressure fill the coolant system. I hope this helps...RS |
I think the water out to the heater goes from the intake just behind the thermostat, to the heater. This is the pressure side. Water return from the heater goes to the water pump, suction side.
Depending on your setup, it may work either way, but on some heaters, the wrong flow direction will trap air inside the heater coil and diminish heat output. Cances are you're using a Vintage Air heater which shouldn't trap any air. |

Thanks for the help guys, so you're saying that the big ones go to the raidiator???:JEKYLHYDE
I am not running a heater, and I was able to figure out the bypass by looking at pictures of 429/460's. I was realy concerned that blocking off the other fittings would cause a problem, but it sounds like it should be ok. I'll let you know how it works. Thanks again, Bran |
