Wheel Well Cutout

Wondering about making a little more room in the left rear wheel well. I've heard about Superformance dealers cutting out the forward inboard section and reversing it to eliminate tire rubbing. I didn't have any rubbing until I installed my autorcross A6 Hoosier tires. They were the same size as my street tires (335/35 ZR-17) but must be slightly larger or flex more. Does anyone have procedures or recommendations on how to proceed? I need to do it this week as I have an autocross race Sunday.

Try raising the rear ride height a bit and then lower it after you swap back to your regular tires.

Changing the ride height will effect the corner balancing and I didn't want to do that. I've been advised to put in wheel spacers to move the tires out a little to avoid rubbing the inside of the wheel well. I think there is enough room on the outside, but not really sure. Does anyone have experience with a 1/4" or 5/16" thick spacer on the rear wheels on a Superformance? I think I'm about to get some experience. That sounds easier than cutting into the wheel well. Maybe the best way is to raise up the ride a little too.

Ward, you should only have to raise the rear a quarter inch or so. Mine rubbed when making a hard right hander. Raised the spring perch a couple of turns and it went away.

Another thought is to get rid of the stock bilsteins and go with the double adjustable QA-1 shocks with 450-500 lb springs. Then, you can stiffen up the shocks for autocross and then soften them up for the ride home.

I did the shocks, springs and sway bars from Cobra Valley and it made a world of difference. You can adjust all four shocks in about 5 minutes. The stock shocks and springs are pretty soft. If you're going to get serious about handling, go to at least 450 lb springs. That way your street ride is still comfortable.

I picked up the spacers today and will probably install them and raise up the body a little. Thanks.
