Smith's Fuel Guage Reading

Got a Contemporary Cobra with a Smith's fuel guage. Car came with a 1969 Camaro fuel tank and sending unit. The guage reads correctly with the sending unit out of the tank and manually moving the float. Will not read correctly in the car and fuel in tank. Is it because the way the tank is positioned on the frame the float is not moving freely? Is there a certain way the sending unit must be installed in the tank? I seem to remember it would only go one way.

Who makes a fuel cell that I could put on this car that would make it safer?

For a fuel cell, go to FuelSafe. Great to work with, fair pricing and they do what they say they're going to do--what more can you ask? FuelSafe.com will get you there.;)

M.,

Have you checked that the sender is grounded consistantly?

I had a custom fuel cell made for my Contemporary by ATL. All you need to do is forward the drawing and a lot of cash and they will make a custom one for you. I probably have the CAD drawing around. I can take a photo or two if you would like. It mounts in the stock location, etc. I think it holds 22 gal.

Also I need a sending unit (NOT float type) that will work within the foam of the cell and is compatible with the Smiths fuel guage.
