Optima Red Top battery question?
My Optima Red Top was purchased in Nov. of 2005; it has been on a battery tender since purchased and has been used to crank the Cobra maybe 25 to 30 times; my question, since it is mounted in the trunk and not easily accessible should I go ahead and install it hoping for a couple of years of service or should I go ahead and replace it now? **)**)**)**)

Griot's has this battery manager that claims to be able to rejuvinate your AGM Red Top battery.

With that many years on that battery I would replace it
|
That is the likely outcome but the test is usually free, but they assume you will buy the replacement from them.

Wellllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllll , the Red Head must have heard I was talking about her because I went out last night to try and get some action and she said PHTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTT TTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTT. Now, thanks to a friend of mine at a local parts house meeting an online price there is a nice new BLONDE (Yellow top) making my engine purrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr. **)**)
And by the way I did have it tested and the test showed "NO" cold cranking amps. |

The next one you get, get something like a CTEK tender which will handle AGM batteries.

I went with the Yellow because the only Red they had in stock had the terminals reversed so he offered me the Yellow at the same price. :):)
Well, today saw a lot of the little things get done but when I tried to start it I had no luck  , I'm getting spark and fuel so i'm not sure why it won't start.......will try again tomorrow. |
Well, I found the problem, all though the only thing I have put in the gas tank is non-ethanol fuel and Seafoam there was a BAD reaction in the gas tank and the hose between the pump and the top of the tank was EATEN away and when I pulled it out it melted in my hand (also stained my hands with black goo which I can't get off, tried gas, mineral spirits, GoJo, lacquer thinner ), so tomorrow I replace the pump. :eek:I've got the inside of the tank soaking in lacquer thinner now..... :-o . Hopefully this is the LAST HURDLE to going to getting my tires. :3DSMILE::3DSMILE:

Well, I finally got the tank back in, got the straps on it, and got the new fuel filter in.....hopefully it starts now:3DSMILE:and over the next three days it will make a spin around the neighborhood, make a trip to FIRESTONE, and make a trip to the paint shop.

Earl,
I am glad that you found the problem and it sounds as if you are really getting near the finish on the build. I have used both the red top and the yellow top and they both lasted for about 15 years. Ron |
