hole in 460 block
I am planning to start my 460 for the first time tomorow (1/1/02), but I can't figure out what the hole at the back of the engine block goes to. The hole is just behind the intake manifold, in the center of the block. I think that it goes into the lifter valley, but I want to be sure before I plug it and cause problems.
Please help, I HAVE to start the car tomorow, sitting in it and making VROOM VROOM noises aren't good enough any more:CRY: . Thanks, Bran |
Hole in Block
The hole in the block behind the manifold is the port for measuring oil pressure. You can plug it with an 1/8 NPT plug or hook up an oil pressure sending unit to it and use a gage.
Do something to it before you start the engine or you will have a mess to clean up. |
It's a secondary port for oil pressure sending units, mostly used on vans and other applications where space on the lower left is tight. You can plug it with an NPT fitting or use it for a secondary low pressure signal--ie; a light to compliment a gauge.
