Body Lift Sling
Anybody used a body lift sling on their cobra? They are sold in the vette catalogues for about $60. Thanks for any comments! Len

Sling
I haven't seen any but I like the idea however my Cobra is finally sealed pretty well and I don't know if I would want to undo what it has taken me so long to do.

Len,
When I built my car, I bought a set of 4 heavy duty adjustable tie-down straps from Home Depot (approx. $12) that worked real well. They were individually rated (each strap) at about 1200 or 1500 lbs capacity (if my memory is correct), more than enough to handle a Cobra body. I also used a load leveler (from Harbor Freight), but since the straps are adjustable, it really wasn't necessary, just easier to use. Good luck. Mike :MECOOL: |
A & C body-quite solid
I got my body today-Yahoo! After reading your post, I was a bit concerned about lifting my body off the truck and into my garage. After seeing how the car is constructed, I realize it's nothing to be concerned about. It is a one-piece body/cockpit assembly. It will not warp if picked up. Four guys picked mine up, one at each wheelwell (strongest point). No flexing through the body whatsoever. Whoever said A & C's were built like a tank was absolutely correct. Let me know how it goes. Body lift sling
I made a body lift "sling" using 4 2x4s that form an "H" with the horizontal part of the "H" using 2 of the 2x4s spaced 1-1/2" apart. This runs down the center of the car with the vertical "H" members resting on top of and fastened to the double 2x4s. Short pieces then extend down at each wheel opening and has a piece fitted to the wheel opening contour. I use an engine hoist to pick the whole thing up. It's a one man operation. Please note that my car still has the door webs in place. You may have to reinforce the body so it doesn't bend in the middle.
