Who has got some shifter handle dimensions handy?
Hi guys decided to make my shifter handle for my TKO
Would someone like to measure their correct shifter handle up for me?? 1)Looking for total length. 2)Length to the bend fron either end. 3)Angle of bend (forward sweep) 4)What size round stock it may be. As for CCW twist in the handle, I will have to guess that. 5)One last one if you are so inclined, is the thread used for the shifter knob. Thanks kindly!!!! Thinking about stainless roundstock then brushing or polishing. If not, then normal steel to be chromed along with my other bolts ons going out for chroming. This would be much appreciated. Tim |
You might consider buying one from Enzo. $150 with (non-functional) reverse lockout handle. You will spend 3 hours making one without the visual accuracy. %/

Thanks Bob but this is something I wanted to do. I don't mind tackling it as it would be a "government job" for me while at work.
Also Noting Enzo (finishline)is no longer on the member discount list here anymore?? Still an advertiser though. I see your ERA guys make a shifter as well...didn't simply buy them did you?? It's simple, if I can save the 250 CDN then I am ahead..it's only labor. Still have to buy the ring ($39US), the boot($49US), the shifter knob($45US). Never seen a shifter add up like this....LOL Hurst could make a killing here. So it helps if I can build it. Just like my car Thanks for the input Tim |
I have a shifter knob and the chrome "crescent" that makes the bottom of the knob "round". It's for a 4-speed though.

I just happened to be bolting together my 3550: 16mm (5/8") dia tubing with 2cm of fine threads on 1/2" end. 25 deg twist, total lengthof 27.5cm with center of 45 deg bend about 6.4 cm from bot. Hole centers from bot: 11mm and 33mm. It looks like a lot of work. |
Keith thanks very much for taking the time to measure that up for me.
I have also taken a net photo and am scaling it up from referenceable dimensions I do know ( ie the bolt centers on my TKO shifter stub. Funny that my blow up photo almost lines up exactly with scale. I show 7/8" center to center,which is practically 22mm :) Now thanks to your extra info I can try and verify what I am doing with a ruler on my pic. As for thread pitch does 1/2" X 20 sound rightat your end?? If it is a lot of work then maybe that's why its 150 bucks....anyhow I want to try and tackle this little project and it could be quite satisfying. Renaissance..thanks for the offer but I am using the 5spd..likely looking at the brushed aluminum style know with the cobra emblem on top. |
