4 Post Auto Lifts
What kind of 4 post auto lift do any of you have? I am looking to buy one and was wondering if any of you had any input? The Eagle looks about as good as any I have looked at? Anyone? Thanks, David.

I do not have one yet. If you do a search, there was a thread a few months ago where people were showing pictures of their garages and some people had lifts that led into a discussion of companies. I have seen the Eagle and another by doublepark.com which was discussed and shown on My Classic Car on speedvision.

At our shop we have two post lifts. They are much nicer for changing tires, working on suspension etc. We have two different makes of lifts and the Rotary is by far the better of the two. We are also currently looking at a four post lift to put in our trailer. www.stingerlifts.com and www.geminilift.com

I just bought a Gemini....researched them all. I just found this to be better for residentail (a little smaller footprint) and got the best deal on it.

Well, I ended up ordering an Eagle. The Xtra-long, Wide-runner, 15,000# capacity, 4-post lift. This will hold any vehicle I own.

i have both a two post assymetrical ROTARY LIFT hoist and a 4 post STINGER hoist in my garage. each serves its purpose, but the 4 poster is better for low slung cars, side pipes etc. With the Stinger 'jacking tray' option you can still jack the car up to pull wheels/tires etc. I have seen delivery trailers with the Stinger hoists mounted inside too. i have had the 2 poster since 1994 and the 4 poster since 1999 and no problems with either . There are many advantages to a 4 poster over a 2 poster (4 poster does not need to be bolted to floor, can be moved on portable wheels with a car on it, can use 110 or 220, does not require thicker concrete floor depths,column heights are much less so not as much ceiling ht needed and more). If you are getting just one hoist primarily for a Cobra, I would recommend a 4 poster . Bill

not only can you use the hoists to work on your cars, but you can use them for storage too by stacking one over the other. I fit 5 cars into a 3 car garage (would be 6 but wife says NO to her stall). Bill

Beautiful set-up! Great to see your cars, great choices, three of my favorites too! I am looking into the Eagle as well but I will need to do some retro work on my garage ceiling...you know one thing always leads to another. |
Clois..thanks, I enjoy my rides and playroom: if limited in height as my one stall is (only 9-1/2 feet) then be sure there are no overhead obstructions : garage door opener track to the side not dead center above car, same for light bulbs, does garage door interfere when it is open (or do you need a high lift kit to snug it to the ceiling) . remember when determining if it will fit if you are going to stack cars to take the highest point of the car (radio antennaes count), add 4 inches for the crossbars of the hoist (most 4 posters' dimensions) and then add 2" so you have some clearance to raise the hoist UP from the safety latch (most hoist catalogues forget to tell you about that). a 10' ht would be good but 10-1/2 feet is ideal otherwise you can't get the upper car raised to the top most position (usually 6' +/- on max lift). I have 11-1/2 ' in one stall so could lift a panel truck with no problem there, but not on the other side where i am constrained at the 9-1/2 ' where the lower height cars have to go. Good luck. B
