Bumper Grommets For Fiberglass ?

I see that Finishline has the bumper grommets for the bumper sleeves, but like others parts they have, their for metal bodies with a groove to for the metal to be placed in ?

So with thicker fiberglass bodies, we need to glue them in ?

Where else can we get them ?

Mark IV 02-02-2018 03:51 PM

We have them as used by Superformance. The fronts glue to the body, the rear are made to span the thickness of the fiberglass.

How do I purchase them through you at Time Machines Motorsports ?
What does a set cost and what hole size ?

Cashburn 02-02-2018 04:06 PM

I cannot find them on the site, but SoffSeal sells them: Soffseal Weatherstriping & Rubber

FUNFER2 02-02-2018 04:20 PM

What's the link for them ?

These worked perfectly on my Hurricane.
Metro Moulded has them.

A set of eight delivered is $61.02 I will need to measure the grommet hole to confirm the size.

Are all four the same shape and hole size, or the front & back are different ?

TuckerJ 02-02-2018 06:38 PM

I was able to get the Finishline grommets to fit my Lone Star. The front just slipped in and the bumpers went through fine.

The rear was a 4 hour struggle of grinding and cussing but I finally got them in. It no longer sounds like a bass drum when I hit a bump ( I was sure it was the trunk floor hitting the sending unit).

The rear was snug and I had to use a little Dawn to get the bumpers in but my thinking is that snug rubber has to be better than slamming down on a steel rod.

They look nice and I'm glad I got them in without paint damage. The dog was just sure that I had gone mad.

The holes in my Hurricane body are oval, as they pass through the body at an angle. The hole in the rubber bushing is 3/4". The rod supporting my quick jacks are 5/8".

Front and rear are different, the fronts are "beveled" as the mount on the angled nose, the rears are "firewall" grommet style. We have the grommets as used on Superformance.

Did you look here? https://www.mcmaster.com/#grommets/=1bfenss

FUNFER2 02-24-2018 02:02 PM

Great, now all I need to do is measure how big my hole is.

Dwight 02-24-2018 05:38 PM

McMaster-Carr sell grommets for 1/4" fiberglass.

Cheap

Those will work for the rear, but the front like Mark said, are shaped differently because of the snout of the Cobra. Since you had a LSC, do you remember how thick the firewall is ?

I want to run a few wires through it with grommets and thinking of a kit like this, as I have others uses for them.

Do you have any pics of your LSC ?

Dwight 02-24-2018 07:38 PM

1/4" or a little less.

Most of the kit you buy are for 1/16" sheet metal like you find in cars.

You need to order from McMaster Carr the size you need.

FUNFER2 02-24-2018 08:14 PM

Thanks.
