I have had the Team CJ bushings in my car for maybe 8 years now? They work great. Just be warned you may have to touch them up a bit as the Jag dimensions vary a bit from one rear assembly to another. If you have ever taken apart the factory fiasco, these are a dream.

If your set-up has the tapered bearings, replace them also. The last I had heard, the roller bearings were not available, but they rarely wear out. You can replace the roller bearing set-up with a tapered bearing if you have the tapered housings with the correct brake caliper mounting.

This should help:
Replacing the pinion seal

Thank you Bob. It still amazes me how much valuable information you have on the ERA site and how willing you are to share with "other brand" owners.

Well it just keeps getting stranger (but better). My "old series 1" 3.54 diff, as identified by the thin fin-type pinion snout reinforcements - as opposed to the solid bar style (supposedly) characteristic of the series 2 - actually has the series 2 type tapered roller output bearing covers and flange mounted brake calipers bolted from the diff side of the rotors. So all of the new parts ordered including the rotors, calipers and bronze bushings, will bolt right up.
The other odd thing is that Alan Weaver from Unique informed me that the correct shortened halfshaft length for my car (bolt-on wheels) is 12" center to center of the u-joint axes. My old shortened shafts measure 13.5" on one side and 13.75" on the other.
I always noted one tire seemed closer to the fender lip than the other, but I chalked that up to the inherent assymetry of Cobra replica bodies whose lineage goes back to the notably crooked handbuilt originals.
The 3.54 diff, relieved of the old brake calipers and pads, turns smoothly and quietly in both directions with no leaking from the pinion seal. So it looks like I get to keep my preferred ratio without swapping gears. :)

Buzz,

Great to hear that it is all coming together for you. Would have piped in sooner, but what you are doing is out of my league. I went the easy route and opened up the wallet, but then again I also had access to someone who could do the work. Good luck, and I look forward to hearing about the successful completion of the rebuild.

Jim

Thank you Jim - rebuilding the differential is out of my league too, but I was ready to give it a try. For now I'm just waiting for the new seals, bushings, brake parts and u-joints to arrive, and I'm heading to the machine shop tomorrow to see about shortening the half shafts and control arms.
To keep busy, I've started reviving and polishing weathered old pieces that are worth keeping. Wifey asked why not just order a new steering wheel instead of all the elbow grease. Well, though it's not evident in the pic below, the top half of that wheel is actually bent backwards a few degrees, and I had to repair splits in the wood on either side. I'm convinced hanging fast onto that wheel is what saved me from bouncing my head off the roll bar when I slammed backwards into the embankment. It, along with the bony lump on top of my left shoulder will be permanent reminders of how lucky I was that day. :)

EDIT: No idea why the pic is upside down. I tried rotating it in my album, but it makes no difference.
