Bell Housing Trim

I have a Quicktime bell housing behind an FE. I didn't trim the lower flange when I originally installed everything, but it worries every time I see a speed bump with grooves in it from cars hitting it. I have the bell housing off the car right now and can trim it easily.

It looks like I could take about 1/2 inch off at the most. Currently the bottom of the bell housing is almost 1 1/4 inches below the frame rails.

My question is 'Have you guys with Quicktime bell housing trimmed yours?'.

Lakewoods have a much larger flange and would obviously need to be trimmed.

Thanks

This has come up many times, like here: http://www.clubcobra.com/forums/era-...llhousing.html and I believe the most common answer is that the SFI flavor of the QT bell housing needs to be trimmed for the street. The non-SFI flavor does not need trimming. Lakewoods, like mine, all need trimming. If it were me, and my QT was hanging low enough to catch a speed bump, then I would absolutely positively trim it off.

Thanks Patrick. I did not search for this, my bad.

My QT is SFI 6.1 rated. It has the sticker on it, but the bottom 90 degrees has no bolts.

Anyway, I just cut it off. I angled the cut to get deeper into the leading side but still stayed in the flange radius on the trailing side. The front side has 1/2 inch more ground clearance than it had before.

I feel better now.

Trimming the QT will void the SFI rating, but since you are not racing that probably is not a concern.
