Lifting my Cobra off the ground

As I am new to this car my Uncle left me I am concerned about raising the car to work on it. The other day I got my floor jack under the front of the frame and got it up far enough to get under it to do what I needed to do but when I set it back down I heard a pop. Sounded like the fiberglass shell. Now I am not sure if I should jack it up like that. On a related note, I have a two-post lift to lift the car (not done installing it yet) and now I am worried about picking it up by the outrigger frame under the doors with the two post lift. Am I just getting a little too worried over nothing?

You want to lift it from the main frame rails.

you need a low profile jack. I bought a 1.5 ton aluminum one ten years ago from Harbor Freight. On sale $60.

I have used it a Lot! Still good.

I see they have a rapid pump unit for $80. https://www.harborfreight.com/15-ton...ump-64545.html

What brand Cobra do you have?

The Daytona long reach low profile professional floor jack from Harbor Freight works very well to lift my Superformance to place 4 jack stands on the frame to inspect, work on, and for winter storage.

I second the low profile Harbor Freight jack. I got one and showed it to my mechanic friend (he and his own a shop) and they bought two of them. They have lasted over 10 years. Some of HF stuff is actually good.

After I got it in the air I just put it up on 4 jack stands. You can find a central location, just aft of the door center on the frame that lets you lift both front and rear simultaneously. Put the stands under it at the lowest position, then lift the other side, then go back to the first and raise the jack stands as high as you need, repeat for other side. Using that I was able to get under the car and work comfortably. I use the same method on my Ford GT.

I have a lift and need to use "risers" to adjust clearance for the hockey pucks.

Two things: low profile jack and hockey pucks.

Just my $0.02 worth.

Hockey Pucks...what a great idea! A 3" x 1" disc of hard rubber is perfect for the lo-profile jack lifting face! Thanks!

I have a Bendpak two post asymmetrical lift and its a little tight but mine fits under the frame with no issues.

Dwight, I have a Superformance MKIII

Trularin, so you're putting it in the air and getting your lift arms to the mainframe? Got it.

Large Arbor, I have a Force lift and my arms don't make it.

I want to thank all of you for your .02 cents I got what I needed which is to say I know not to lift anything but the mainframe. I have a snap-on Floor jack which gets me under the front of the car to the cross member so I will jack it up under my lift and get the arms up under the mainframe. I am trying to get the Clutch Master out and it is a pain to get to.

On the Ford GT I used hockey pucks on my floor jack and on the jack stands to keep the metal off the lift pads. Worked great!

By the way, that popping sound you heard upon lowering the car back down off of the jack is the springs on your shocks popping back on their seats.
Scares the crap out of you if it happens while driving.

Tony what is a hockey puck.:)
I live in the south and we don't have any stores that sell hockey pucks.

I guess I have to order online

Ha! I bought mine in Colorado. The local sporting goods store had bins of Colorado Avalanche pucks for a dollar or two each. I think they were clearing them out after one of their Stanley Cup trips. I believe they were the souvenir pucks they gave away at the games.

Guys,
I found packs of 10 or so on Amazon. Lot cheaper than I'd probably find at sporting goods stores.

You just beat me to this reply. That is indeed the answer to the thread question. It will happen every time you set the car back on its wheels...
