Strut rod eliminator
 
Looking to convert my Mustang II front suspension to the tubular control arms with the strut rod eliminator. Anyone else done this? If so, how did it go? My car is an NAF 427, 429 SCJ / Toploader 4 speed, 9" Ford rear, and the Mustang II front with Aldan coil overs.

if you have the strut rods why do you want to eliminate them?

I built the car in 1989 and I'm still driving it. Was planning to upgrade to the tubular arms and figured I'd go with the strut rod eliminator just to clean up the looks. Car now has Aldan coil overs on all four corners, 9" Ford 4-link with panhard bar out back, Mustang II front with 11" discs.

My opinion looking at the geometry of the MII front suspension is I believe the strut rods to be the stronger set up. I kept mine when switching to the tubular control arms and coil overs. I did upgrade to the urethane bushings and proper torque of the struts. I didn't see the benefit in eliminating them. I am no expert.

If you just drive the car around and go to car shows etc, I would get rid of them. If you crank through a lot of curves and/or race it at all, I would leave them in place. Do you know the weight bias on your car? From the engine/drivetrain you are stating, that might be my determining factor.

With the big block up front, my front to rear is 58 / 42 without the driver and with a full tank. Not ideal by a long shot. I was mainly interested in how the eliminator worked. I know there's welding involved but that's not an issue with me. Was curious about the pros and cons and haven't seen anyone addressing that.

Mine worked great. I had no issues, but I would think if you were racing the car, you might get more flex in the control arm without the strut rod than with it. I never had a problem and I would get rid of the strut arm if I ever had to do it again. I had no problems with alignment or anything.
