heater shut off

I am curious, Do most of you plumb in a shut off valve for your heater? or simply let the hot water run through it 24/7/365?

There was a shut off valve on the engine on original 289 Cobras.

Plumb it in. It only takes two minutes and it makes a difference during the summer (and winter).

I have one like Patrick's but I've never turned it off even once. I need to try that on the next hot drive to see if I notice a difference.

mine was a Mustang unit, vacuum controlled so I could turn it off or on from the driver seat.

Dash pull cable to a heater hose valve.

Uhhh, personally I think it's kind of cool that when your passenger complains that they are too hot you have to pull off the road, get out, lift the hood, and turn a valve handle only to have them say they are too cold fifteen minutes later.

If your Continuation was supplied with a heater there should be a cable controlled heater valve just above the passengers foot box.

No it was not... I installed my own heater.

On my ERA car I had one like in the photo above, i turned it off during the summer months. I was just wondering what other guys are doing...

Many people don't have a heater so this is not an issue. Many ask about making their oil cooler functional, should they or not, well in FL reducing heat is the main concern. I really don't need an oil cooler on the street, so I turn my oil cooler in to another radiator by running in the warm weather the heater lines to it. When I need heat, I reconnect them to the heater. On a Daytona which has a large oil cooler you pick up an additional 10-15% cooling capacity by running your heater water thru the cooler. If I saw temperatures in the oil that warranted it, I would reconnect the oil cooler as an oil cooler but I don't. Just a thought.

Yes, I run a simple mechanical cable actuated water valve from the 1970’s I picked up from NAPA and put it near heater core out of site. The mechanical choke cable I used is also hidden low in the pass foot well to control the valve.
