State Patrol Inspection

Is there anything that I should remember for my State Patrol inspection tomorow? I have been told that here in Colorado I will need 1) working brakes (of course) 2) parking brake 3) horn 4) all normal lights (turn signal, tail, and head lights) 5) seatbelts for both seats (sholder and lap belts). Is there anything that I am missing?

Thanks,
Bran

Bran,

You will need all receipts and your MSO. They may not look at the receipts but you should have them nonetheless. They may ask you where your rearend came from and just tell them that it came with the kit - because it did. The most important thing is to be very open and non-confrontational or they can dig MUCH deeper. One member in Colorado ended up having to post a bond because his mid 60's engine did not have a serial number - none of them did. But he got off to a bad start with the inspector and it went downhill from there. I am not sure if you will need wipers or not. I don't think so but I remember that I showed the inspector that mine worked because I had just finished them the night before. Make sure you have all your engine receipts. The time to "hide" them is when the state assess a value and taxes you. Another thing - several people have had the inspector tell them that the Midstates plate needs to be installed and in other cases, they told them to take the plates off because they were not "legal" and only the state ID would be acceptable. I had my plate with me and showed it to the inspector. At that point, he told me to put it on and that he would check for it when he installed the VIN number.

On a lighter note, I pulled up to the inspection area and kept the car idling until he motioned me into a spot. At that point, while checking another car, he casually asked me if I had ANY mufflers on the car. I told him yes. He finished and said - I'll pass you but if I ever see you on the street I'll write you up for excessive noise!

Good luck,

Gary
