Fuel Air ratio
Is there a good way to check fuel air mixture other then going to a dyno, I have a 351W with a 750 Edelbrock, I think I am running to lean do to the fact I can not keep it cool.any ideas would help.

Either hook up an air/fuel ratio meter to your Oxygen sensor, if you have one installed, or hook up a 0 - 1V DC volt meter to the sensor and watch the numbers. Readings as low as 0.2 V indicate very lean, up to 0.9 V indicate very rich, idle should be around 0.4 - 0.5 V. The readings are only meaningful once the sensor has heated sufficiently and gone in closed loop. I use both methods.
Let me have your email address, I'll send you an some interesting reading on this subject. |
Don't be foolish. Spend the money and put the car a the dyno with a wide range O2 sensor in the pipe or a 5 gas analizer to test the exhaust. Once you have it tunedup, buy an EGT gauge from Jegs or Summit and you can monitor your motor. Dyno is the best way to go. Call around for prices. About 100.00 per hour in the northeastern area. Being a fan of both Cobras and Corvettes, I'm a member of both ClubCobra and the CorvetteForum. I found a very good tech article on tuning Holley carbs on the other forum. I don't see why the basics of carb tuning should be fundamentally different for Ford or Chevy V8s. You may find it helpful: http://www.corvetteforum.com/techtip...=108&TopicID=3

Learn how to read your spark plugs. It isn't simply comparing your insulator color to a plug chart! You can determine how happy your engine is in both timing and mixture. Do a web search. Easier than me typing an essay.
