Trunk Lid Support Installation
Some of you may have experience with this or perhaps it is OEM on your car. I have used a prop rod for the trunk lid in the past and now want to install the proper ratcheting mechanism. The problem I perceive is in the way it is attached to the body. I have fabricated a bracket that I want to bond to the underside of the left rear quarter panel next to the edge of the trunk about 6" from the leading edge of the trunk opening. I think it would be a good idea to apply a few additional layers of Fiberglass to the undeside area before bonding the bracket to it, for additional reinforcing. I will use a structural adhesive made by Lord Industries (Fuzor) to bond the bracket to the Fiberglass. Do any of the glass bodied cars use this type of trunk lid support mechanism and if so how is IT mounted. Is there a bracket attached to another location. Your feed back is appreciated, especially if you have encountered this modification yourself or are a dealer/builder.
Thanks........Rick

I am not sure if this is what your looking for but my em has gas lifts like the oem....the part #s are on a thread about 2mos ago...They have a bracket that mounts to a crossmember, which also has the deck lid hinges on it ....In the trunk itself they have an aluminum triangle about one inch across.....I just turn the handle and lift does all the work and they look good too. They are less than an inch in diameter for hood and trunk....hope this helps ..
