Wheres a good deal on toggle switches
I just can't justify paying for the Lucas switch if some get as high as 40-45 bucks american

Tim,
Try Radio Shack P#'s 275-651 and 275-654 for SPST and SPDT/Center Off, repectively. Radio Shack does not have any Double Throw switches in that line, but the GC brand (P# 35-189) is a very close match and is available in DPDT/Center Off. The GC switches will have to be obtained from a commercial electronics distributer such as Newark Electronics. Hope this helps. Steve |

Not a single bite on what we all seem to require in our dash. I actually had a look at a lucas site in UK for fun... Yes I think for some switches there should be similar switches in the automotive electrical departments. I have looked at 427 s/c dash layouts and there are many toggle switches ,pushpulls and lamps. I will be sourcing something once my gauges from Tristate show up...like to do the dash all at once and this will complete a nice chunk of the wiring task at hand. Tim |

When I first got the Cobra, all 4 switches looked like they came from different manufacturers...and they all looked and felt cheap. After seeing the switches in Zderf's car I bit the bullet and went to Finish Line for a matched set of Lucas switches. They were worth the VISA shock and I couldn't be happier with them. They look like something that came installed on an expensive British sports car in the '60's. Check the look and action on cheap switches, then play with some Lucas switches...night and day. Rich |

Zderf's car was built by the same guy who built mine I will talk to my builder and see if he supplied them.... I know what you mean, but I keep hearing, Lucas, prince of darkness in my head....LOL "Get home before dark".....and that those laid off at Lucas went to work at Smiths after....get the picture? I do like the image someone posted of the lucas toggle 3 positions...1)off 2)flicker 3)dim I will check it out...see if I can find something here Tim |
Europaspares.com, and cobraspares.com (U.K.) has 'em, and you can order them on-line. Just multiply price (Pounds) x 1.6 to get U.S.$.

Jack thanks for the links...wow theres a lot of neat stuff to be had, The site in UK...is very cool...as I am in Canada I have to multiply by another 1.6 to go from US to CDN. Enzo starting to look more affordable by the minute.

After going thru a set of the Lucas switches, I bought a set from Radio Shack (I see Steve has listed the p/n above) and they are very good. Very similar appearance, good action and retail at about $3 USD...and they last! Before jusmping on the Lucas units, I would advise you check out the RS units, especially if you will use the car as a car rather than a waxing demonstrator! :CRY:

The Lucas switches look and feel great, but the key to making them last is to not overload them.
I used relays to control any high load components. ie: fans, lights, fuel pump, wiper motor, etc. and have had no trouble with the Lucas switches. They are pricey though. :JEKYLHYDE |
Digikey has all sorts of heavy-duty toggle switches. From what I can tell all of the switches are bat handled rather than the Lucas type. But if you're looking for true heavy-duty toggles: www.digikey.com

Dave the Lucas will get real expensive if you factor in the accompanying relays as well...LOL
