Alternator Connection ???'s
I have solved my 351W alternator bracket problem by cutting off 2" of the mounting end of a 302 bracket. Then by redrilling a new hole, I was able to mount it to a lower water pump bolt. The top of the alt, I mounted with a 6" bolt and a spacer into the top/front Head mounting hole. A 30" V belt aligned the alt perfectly in the center of the adjuster bracket.
Now my question... The Motorcarft Alternator I have is an older style, with 4 poles on the back. They are labeled: STR BAT GND FLO obviously... BAT = Battery, GND = Ground What is STR and FLO Where & how do these connect? Is there any thing else I need in-line between the Alt poles and their destination? Is there a harness made for this? I know this sounds like a bunch of dumb questions,... but the electrical stuff isn't my forte! And as they say the only dumb questions are the ones you don't ask! Thanks for your help! |
Ron you should try a search first...we just went thru this with me...LOL
I have a Ford STD PAW 60 amp chrome alt. with no markings on the terminals..just coloured isolating terminals. Also have the 4 pin external voltage reg. Thank the board for the multitude of information when a guy is in need. Scroll down to the bottom to see if your alt. looks like Bob Putnams pic. Good diagrams form Bob. alternators and regulators Hope this helps Tim |
It's not 'FLO' but FLD= Field. STA= Stator. In the 60's, which has the easiest wiring I think, the Stator wire on the Alr feeds back to the S post on the voltage regulator. The FLD post feeds to the F post on the voltage regulator. Yes, BAT is the hot lead to the battery and GND is ground.
