Electric puller fan mounting hardware question
Have you guys had good luck with the mounting hardware that comes on most of the puller fans....You know those black plastic thru the rad core type zip straps.....
Pulling the rad to fashion a bracket and then trying to attach that to my rad will be a little job I would like to avoid. Want to know the general feedback or consensus on this original mounting hardware. Its a 16 inch multi blade puller Tim |

I'm a little leary of those type mounts, particularly on a fan, which weighs a few pounds. The main concern is whether it will eventually cause stress cracking of the radiator core. I fabricated aluminum and stainless brackets to mount two pullers behind my radiator, but I did it as I built the car. I can imagine it being a lot harder on an assembled car. Good luck, |

Looks like I will go the extra and pull the rad tomorrow and see what I can fab up...I have some aluminum flatbar in mind....I think I will pick up off the actual rad mounts bolts....I don't like the idea of drilling and tapping however careful into the rad....possibly having some tabs welded on would be another alternative. BTW Dave your car photos are very nice...like the colour scheme Tim |

Don't use the through the rad mounts. I found out the expensive way when they wore holes through the radiator cores and being a 4 layer radiator it was not repearable. When I got the new rad the rad man he showed me how to mount the fan so it can't damage the radiator. Let me know if you need further help. My fan is mounted on vertical straps mounted of the radiator side supports. Regards, Bryan |

Summit has a mounting kit (BCI-72031) that has aluminum tabs that secure on the top and bottom of any cross flow radiator requiring no drilling. They are $79.99 for a set of 4 to secure one fan.

Bryan, thats exactly what I need to hear, thought of using 3/4 by 1/8 aluminum flatbar as straps either vertically or horizontally... Rick you have mail I will look and see what Summit makes for an idea. Dave i had a look ..interesting, My rad has two mounting "studs" on the bottom and one centered on the top....as well my 4 core brass rad leans in at the top on a decent angle. Somehow I thought I could use these 3 points as attachment points for whatever stapping arrangment I can come up with. There is no real face framing for the rad either, so strapping it to outside framing of the rad opening isn't likely either. Well the rad is now out and on the table...I bought a length of 1" by 1/8" alum flatbar....

Have exact same fan, and like you, didn't buy into the plastic pull-through mounts. Seemed like a sure radiator destroyer.
Believe local Trak or Pep Boys had electric fan mounting bracket that mounted the fan, then mounted to the top and bottom of the radiator. Used weatherstripping on the mount to rad face. Radiator has aluminum top & bottom and I wanted steel to secure the mount to. Sawed up some shelving wall brackets and attached the pieces to the rad with marine epoxy. Then mounted the rad bracket with sheet metal screws. Good & solid. You could easily make a bracket with aluminum bar stock, but use angle or channel for stiffness and rigidity. |
