body prep quesions

Hi Guys,
After speaking with Bob at E-M I have decided to the body prep on my cobra. Bob says that the E-M body is one of the easier cobra bodies to do.
I'm know that this will be a big job, but I started building the car in the first place so I could learn new skills.
If any one has advice on how I should get started I would appreciated hearing from you.
Thanks for your help.

Roger,
This will take a couple of threads.
If the body is in raw gel coat you should first wash it with soap and water and then wipe it down with a product made by Dupont called 2319S. This will help in removing any mold release(waxes) from the factory. DO NOT USE ANY SOLVENT BASED CLEANERS!!! This will create static electricity and could ignite!!
Next, Sand the body with 120G on a DA to open the pores of the fiberglass.
Then, Do bodywork:finishing your bondo in 180G or finer.
Now you will be ready for a high build Urethane primer.
After lots of block sanding and re-priming you should be ready for the Base/clear part.
Let me know if you have any more questions. I am a Senior Technical Rep for the largest automotive paint supplier in the world. And I have painted cars since I was 10.

Roger,
You should have no problems other than a lot of hard work. Just to add to what Shannon has stated (Shannon is that you from Len's site?), go to www.autobodystore.com. That is one of the most professional, friendly, and helpful sites (other than CC, of course). There is a wealth of information and a great Archive. Search first, then ask away.
Good Luck,
Bruce

Shannon and Bruce,
Thanks for the advice. I will start by checking out the site Bruce sent me and then get to work.

body prep

Roger,

I'am a automotive refinish jobber, Shannon is dead on. Do be careful about static buildup, 2319s is an excellant product. It is just alot of hard work, good luck.
