Drive Shaft Angle
 
HELP PLEASE-- DO TO NEW STYLE MOTOR MOUNTS ON MY 351W PLACED INTO MY CLASSIC ROADSTER THE TRANS. YOKE IS 1.75 INCHS ABOVE CENTER LINE OF REAR END YOKE IS THIS TO MUCH OF AN ANGLE AND WHAT IS BEST FIX AALSO HAD TO HAVE FRONT PULLY CUT TO CLEAR CROSSMEMBER OF FRAME.THANKS DCAPO

That should be fine. You do NOT want the tranny yoke to line up perfectly with the rear end yoke. In fact it should also be an inch or so off to the left or right. This arrangement creates a "stir" in the drive shaft. This "stir" is necessary to promote proper u-joint wear/ lubrication.

Explain further why you had to cut the front pulley ! Soemthing is not right! You aren't using a multiple belt syle pulley are you? Even a "two belt pulley" system should not have to be cut!

Can you post a picture for us?

DV I HAVE NO PICS BUT ORGINAL PULLY HAS 4 RINGS AND IS VERY HEAVY THE NEW ONE HAD 3 RINGS WHICH HAS NOW BEEN MACHINED TO TWO AND IS VERY LIGHT. HAS PLENTY OF CLEARENCE AND LINES UP VERY WELL. I DROPPED THE DRIVE SHAFF 1+ INCH USING LARGE WASHERS BETWEEN FRAME AND CROSSMEMBER SUSPORT. DO YOU THINK THATS OK? ALSO MY TRANNY LINES UP ALMOST STRIGHT WITH REAR YOKE. SHOULD I MOVE IT OFF CENTER? THANKS DCAPO

dcappo, square the front and back of your engine to the frame(center the drivetrain),if you have adjustable 4 link,tweak the rear end to square on the frame also,if you don't, proceed to take a reading from the differential yoke with a angle finder or a machinist square.If your 4 link is fixed (no adjustment) then you will be raising or lowering your transmission to maintain a PARALELL LINE with the rear end,allowing 1 to 1 1/2 degree - on the only variable you have. Do not think it should be off set as in my case or Campys, the straighter the better,but maintain the paralell center lines,our cars are designed offset (left to right) but yours is the PREFERED DESIGN.
