How long should I be??
 

Knew that would catch your attention...lol
I am looking at e-brake handles to buy right now...Lokar and Gennie both have an 11" chrome job at $77 and $80 bucks
Enzo had one at $139 but does not list the length yet it looks to be the same length

So how long should this handle be as I am using that to determine which I buy.

Also should I choose one, do I have to but their cables or can I just buy cabling from the generic auto store?
My chum back east used ordinary cables form an autosupply

The length will depend how your going to mount it:3DSMILE: I couldn't resist after your title to this thread. Anyway, it does depend on whether you are planning on mounting the handle next to the tunnel or on top of the tunnel. Basically, short on top and longer if on the floor next to the tunnel. I used the Lokar , they have a number of applications for the cables (attaching to different rearends) and the cable can be sized to fit. It comes with the necessary hardware which also aids in installation and I would recommend using their cable kit rather than trying to piece together your cabling.

As for a e brake have you thought of using one mounted to your left ( from a Feiro) available new from GM?

I've never seen one of the Fiero handles. Have a picture by chance? Love to see how it works.

As far as the lokar handle goes, we use the short one for the Cobras and the longer one for the streetrods. Lokar cables are great and simple to hook up, but you can buy and older Mustang cable set up at Napa for about half the price.

Hi Guys....I guess once your car is built you don't look back. To a certain extent that applies to all of us.
I am thankful there are those who do like to help the guys still in midstep here....
Many of the actual builders and wrenchers ( AKA known as of late as "real car guys"...LOL)
Putnam, DoubleVenom, George Anderson, Richard from JBL.. are just to name a few who have been a big help to me.

As I have said in the past, I have yet to receive a build manual with my 85% completed car. My builder thought I wouldn't be needing it and he wasn't finished writing it up anyhow. So this site and its many frequent flyers have been a godsend and watershed of helpful info.

Having said that, you will see the majority of my posts are on the shoptalk site. Hopefully I can and will give back once I have done this journey.

Ken, my thoughts were to stay on the passenger side inner tunnel rail, where they originate as well. It seems easier and stronger to attach the beast there as well as thats my biggest metal (box tube).
I also seem to have more room there. Going to the left could be a squeeze.

DV thanks for the tip, I was sure we could acquire cables from the auto jobber that would work just as well. Both Lokar and Gennie sell their cables at the same price as the handles if not more.

Anyone else want to chime in and fesssss up to what length handle they are using?? 11" or 16" What is the Jag XKE measured at? Bob??

Good luck with finishing your car,I too have no manual so others imput is very helpful. As with most clubs they have their little CLICKS ,if your not in it forget it.
Personaly i have better things to do than waste my time on such people! therefore you will not see any more posts from me.

I have tried to share some of my thoughts here. Many times I spent considerable time typing in a reply,and the person asking the question just dissapears....no followup to let us know how their problem turned out. I usually ask for one to try and learn from thier experience. That is why I cut way back on posts here.

Ken no reason to hit the road....just hang in there. You will need this site as you have already said. So stay.

I have found it good...sure the guys don't always jump when you ask. Either they don't know or can't be bothered simple as that.

Other than your fuel tank thread going to sleep, you got good advice from across the board. Sometimes a dormant thread can get re-noticed by you posting a friendly "to-the-top" reply to bring it back to front-page visibilty.

How Long!

Ditto on the use of Lokar. Mounted on top of tunnel, used their cables and clips. Cut the plastic/steel cover and braided cable with Dremmel. Looks and works great. Cost a bit but what doesn't if you want quality. Besides it's YOUR car, do what you feel is best for you and your pocket book.

Tell me your thoughts. It does look like its more suited for trans style mount or frame rail inner vertical face. Tabs do not fold to the horizontal like Lokar or gennie

I think you are right about location....Many guys going on top of the tunnel?? Especially with that driveshaft right underneath.

I have found a hot rod place in Canada selling lokar and will give them a call as well

I like the LOKAR too. Very good quality and reasonable price. Mine is mounted on top of the trans tunnel as well.

I phoned a shop here in Canada that does hot rods...the old car shop
and they have the Genie low line which you guys saw in the links at 119 CDN which beats the actual manufacturers site price at 77 US

My builder referred me to the Model A style which ends up being a tranny mount style that stands straight up as opposed to lying down.

Is the one in Bob P's pic shown with the brake on or off??

This low line model I have in mind is more like the lokar style that mounts to the floor or top of tunnel

Also will utilise simple generic cabling

Nice looking unit to be used with a generic brake cable made by Absco, cut to length by me.

Just have to fab up a bracker to mount it to the frame rial at its proper spot
