Accel coil... test?

How do I test if my accel coil is any good. I wired a ballast resistor into the circuit, but the car wouldn't rev. taking it out let the full 12V to the coil and it revs fine. I was told I should have the ballast resistor in the circuit, so does this mean my coil is no good? I have a multimeter but am not sure what to measure.
Thanks
Simon

Coil

Simon,

You can measure the primary resistance of the coil which should be low. Then measure between the primary and secondary and that should be very high. The easiest test is if your coil is easy to change just put in a stock coil with your resistor and see what it does. I use a Jacobs system and their coil and I have a ballast resistor and no problems.

Which Jacobs system do you have and does it work as hyped? I have a Mopar 'Orange' box right now. It has more aggressive spark control for modified engines but thats it.
