Unique trailing arm adjustment
The trailing arms (old style forward facing arms) on my Unique are rattling. Does this mean they're too loose? What's the process for adjusting these?

Rich,
I'm not real familiar with the older style arms. Do those arms have heim joints or are they the bushing type? Standard steel heims will naturally rattle, and they get worse as they wear and loosen up. As far as adjusting rear toe, the procedure should be similar whether you have the old style or the new, rearward mount trailing arms. I disconnected the arms completely and set the toe using shims between the inner pivot shaft and the center section. Then I adjusted the arms to allow the bolts to slip through the heim joints easily with the car sitting on the ground at normal ride height. This allows the arms to be under zero preload, and simply provide fore and aft support without binding. Hope this helps, |
David,
The trailing arms have heim joints. The older cars don't have rearward facing arms. The forward facing arms attach to a frame bracket in front of the rear tire and another bracket on the lower suspension arm. Rich |
