Wiring lights, Unique 289

Ok guys see if you can help. I am finally in the process of putting my car back together. I have it mostly wired, and when checking circuits before mounting the dash, everything worked except when the parking lights or the headlights are turned on the turn signals will not flash. The turn signals work fine with the lights off. Every circuit works fine by itself: horn, brake lights, license light, etc. What gives? Thanks. Kirby

Is your battery fully charged?

Check the ground on the parking lights.

Kirby Nelson 05-03-2002 06:27 PM

Battery is fully charged, grounds checked, then after fiddling with the switch for the heater blower it all works ok. Don't ask me what I did. Thanks for the input guys. Tomorrow the body goes back on for the last time I hope. Kirby

Sounds like you have a wire crossed to one of the lites. I have run into this when wiring up trailer lites. Everthing works untill you turn on the lites. You are grounding one of the lites though the filament instead of the bulb base. I hope you can understand what I have tried to explain.

Kirby,
If all else fails, prodesign systems inc. does the wiring harness for Unique. I'd give them a call at 256 546 1000. I should think that if anyone could help they could.
Good luck,
h dog

Kirby,
I'd bet money that the wires to the turn signals are switched with either the front or rear marker lights.
There are 2 different elements in each bulb. They are not the same. If you get them switched, you can get the symptoms you describe. Check both your right front and your right rear. Either or both of them could be the problem (front or rear). The connection pad that the bulbs contacts can get pushed in and rotated 180 degrees and therefore be switched. One element burns brighter than the other. The one that burns brighter is for the turn signal on the one set and the brake lamp on the other set. The ones that burn dimmer is for the Parking lights.
Hope this helps - Okiesnake

Poor-boy, pretty sure wiring is straight. Hound-Dog, I have a call in to Pro-Design, getting their one guy to call back is sometimes a problem. He is on the road alot I think. Okie, I did have to fiddle with one of the front parking lights base; to get the bright element to be the one to flash. Haven't checked the rear lights though. These are all good leads guys, thanks alot.
I'll be at Carlisle on Friday the 17th, hope to see some of you there. Kirby
