Soft top and air conditioning

Anyone have experience installing a Shell Valley soft top? Is Shell Valley the only source for proper fit on a Shell Valley car? Any problems installing on a finished car? How's the quality of the soft top? (I've had problems with SV parts).

Also, has anyone installed an air conditioning system in a Shell Valley? Is there a small arfter-market unit that will fit? Any over-heating problems (351W) blocking the radiator with a condenser?

re air conditioning

I don't know about the soft top but you might contact Emerson Motorsports as I know he has put air conditioning in a big block car and he has had a Superperformance and Shell Valley Cobra down there in the past but I don't know what he was doing to them. I think Bill told me they had to have the brackets and compressor custom made but I may be wrong. Anyway if someone else hasn't already done this that could be a place for you to start.

Mine was a pain to do, but that was when Mr. Steve owned the company and I don't know if the tops have changed. It fits ok but if you want to run a/c you might want to look at a hard top for the summer. I never use my top so I never tried (never assembled them actually) the windows to see if they would fit very well.

Air does fit in the Shell Valley.

One of our AZ Cobras members has a hardtop and air on his Shell Valley. Runs it all summer long out here in the desert. The motor is a ...do I dare say it...BB chevy.

I've dealt with a couple of air conditioned cobras. The ac doesn't work that great due to the car's (any cobra) less than airtight top construction. Also, under hood looks like crap. Many people's cars are too close to running hot anyway and ac would put them into overheating on really hot days. Just keep the top off and drive faster.

you dont live in texas or la obviously.
you run the air, unzip the back window and
drive like you stole it.
you can fry an egg on the sidewalk here in july
and if you leave the top down the wheel is too hot to
touch
air is good, forget the power steering and brakes keep the air

I live in L.A. not la or tx. I've always driven black interior cars with no ac. I thought everybody always burned their hands on the steering wheel, gearshift, and seatbelt buckles in the summer.

If this picture worked, it shows a AC pump engine compartment that looks good. This is a 460 with Cobrajet aluminum heads, 10 1/2 to 1 compression. The car will run through a parade in 100 degree heat, and never see 200 degrees. The trick is using the right radiator, water pump, and oil cooler. Most of the original looking oil coolers will not work efficiently enough. If you want air conditioning, you have to spend the money on the components that will make it work. A four-core dimpled radiator we find, works the best. We use two 16" fans, a pusher and a puller, rated at 2900 cfm each. The AC will run cool enough to freeze your nipples off, and works very nice with the tonneau cover on the passengers side. E-mail me and I will send you pictures. Bill E. EMS P.S. It gets hotter in Redding CA, than in Texas

Bill,
please email me the photos.

my sister lives in Westlake Village on the 101 and we are planning on going to see her for two weeks next wed.
we will bring our "winter" clothes.

i am going to put a 427 into my B&B roadster and am concerned about overheating.
Right now the best option looks like the two bank Griffen AL and a puller fan.
Let me ask you something.
A pusher and puller both. Wouldn't they be moving the SAME volume of air. I'm not trying to be funny.
i.e. if lightning went straight how fast wouldit go? (the same speed)
what would you recommend for an oil cooler?
after seeing the dragsters at red river go 305mph and 4.9 in the quarter, i'm thinking about putting an automatic tranny in my cobra.

Cool Dude

Thomas,

I will be putting the same type Radiator in my 428 CJ this summer. The radiator that Bryan uses was just fine for my 335 hp 302 but just doesn't cool well enough for an FE engine. I will be going with a 19" X 24" AFCO. Price is only about $210.00 at Grand Prix here in Tulsa for an all alum two core with 1" tubes. Now, my car cools just fine as long as I don't get stuck in a line going to Burger Street or MacDonalds. When July and August get here I will definately need the upgrade.

I live in the midwest. We have 100+ degree heat in the summer, and -35 degree cold in the winter. My Cobra has neither a.c. nor a heater.
Pansies. ;)
