Hydraulic Emrgency Brake problem
 

I just replace a master cylinder in my Tilton brakes setup. While driving today, I noticed the rear wheels were hot. Jacked up the rear and removed the tires to check spin on rear axle. It spins, just not a freely as I believe it should. Considered that the hydraulic emergency brake might be the problem, so I set it. Now I can't get it to release.

1. How do you release the hydraulic emergency brake?
2. Could it be partially engaged and compressing the calipers.
3. If so, what can I do?

The weather is to nice to have a beautiful car sitting in the garage.

Did you replace the emergency brake master, or one of the main master cylinders?

If the drag is noticable, open a bleeder to release pressure. If you're retaining pressure, then the problem is in the master or linkage setup. If not, the problem is mechanical, at the caliper.

I took my entire brake assembmly to Taylor Racing in Dallas. Craig Taylor determined the problem was the Master Cylinder for the rear brakes (the rear calipers were in bad shape, so I also replaced them). After replacing, I am having trouble bleeding. Tilton requires you bleed the right side together, then the left, which I did. The pedal was still soft. I then used a vacuum device, which did not help. I even went back and bled the Master Cylinder's again. The Hydraulic Emergency Brake is set up on the front brakes. I loosened the line going out, thinking air could be trapped. The pedal is still soft.

Have I missed anything? I've been at this for hours!

Hi Guys...
I have a ford falcon and considered installing the solonoid operated inline rear brake / emergency brake system so my wife did not have to use the old handset for the emergency brakes. Just compress the pedal, push the button and it engages. As I studied the system I found that the following problems may become evident:
1. Drive the car in the morning...say to work and set the brake. When you get back into the car at the end of the day and try to press the brake pedal to disengage the system... the heat difference outside will cause the fluid to build pressure and you will have lockup of the solonoid and you end up having to loosen the brake valve to release some pressure. Not what your wife wants to do in the parking lot after work.
2. The solonoid will sometimes stick and not let all of the pressure back off when you press and then release the brake pedal.

I decided to install the foot operated brake system. Also, the State of Calif. requires that the emergency brake be mechanical instead of hydralic. All this info came from a major brake distributor in West Sac. I assume it is correct, but there may be allowances for the e. brake unit.
Om this same subject... I am looking for a company that builds the e.brake system that bolts to the driveshaft/rear end housing. Anybody have any info on these?
