460 dipstick question
What are the measurements from handle to full and add marks on the dipstick? I have a 460 with a stock front sump pan. I have a modified 351 dipstick which was made by following the directions of a local Ford performance shop. Recently I noticed the oil guage quiver under braking. This looks like bubbles in the oil lines to me. After seeing this I parked the car, and will do a oil change and look for debris which could indicate a blockage somewhere. Before I put the car back on the road I want to make sure that I am giving it enough oil.
Thanks for the help, Bran |
I forgot to mention, for some reason I can't find a 429/460 front sump dipstick in Colorado. I can't even find one in a salvage yard.
Thanks again |
Brandon- stock 460's generally hold 6 quarts with the filter . Next time you change the oil after running your car mark your dipstick at that level. I also found that 460's run a bit better with a extra quart but they tend to blow/throw it out over 1000 miles or so.
You also need to upgrade that stock pan for a performance pan even with stock engines in Cobras. Cheap insurance. cobrashoch |
Thanks Ron, I will take your advice on how to mark the dipstick tomorow and replace the pan asap.
Thanks again |
