Gas shocks for the hood

Who carries gas shocks for the hood and are they easy to mount? I'm considering getting rid of the manual hinge on my car as it's nearly 5.5" from front to rear. I thought gas shocks would not only be safe but allow more clearance for the radiator?

MidStates offers gas shocks for hoods and trunks. I have them on my Midstates and they work and fit great. Just give Bob Kallio a call... 402-654-2772

Gas shocks are really more appropriately called gas springs. They will hold a preload on the hood, and depending on how stiff it (the hood) is, the gas springs may cause it to bow up in the middle. Same thing as when you put a 'glass hood on a steel car and thus need to change the hood hinge springs to lower tension. Never put them on a cobra, but something to keep in mind.
