T-5 lost 3rd and 4th gear

Hey,

Hopefully somebody can help.... I was coming back from the York, PA show last Sunday and lost 3rd and 4th gear in my Cobra. I have a L.A. Exotics 302 with a T-5 Trans. Could this be a linkage problem in the trans??

For Your Info,

Gas prices in my area are aroung $1.35. I paid $1.08 saving .27 per gallon thru a company that sells $200 gas cards for $160 which is a 20% savings. And you can use these anywhere in the USA at pumps that except Master card or Visa. Thats like getting a free tank of gas for every 5 fill ups. I can enjoy my L.A. Exotics Cobra more now. E-Mail me at cobraallan@yahoo.com for more info.

And let me guess.... We can buy these "Gas Cards" through you. Is PayPal setup and "ready to go"?

Re t-5

When you lost 3rd and 4th gear did you have any bad (expensive) sounding noises or is it just locked where you can't shift into those gears. If it is just locked I would GUESS the linkage would be a good starting point but I figure yours is a top loader and that won't be quite as easy to look at as the old 4 speeds with the linkage on the outside. I took my T-5 World Class transmission out a few weeks ago to check on a slight seep and the linkage is something that I wouldn't really wnat to get into without someone here that has experience on it. I can set it on my other car with the 4 speed ok but that doesn't involve much. Hope it isn't anything bad and I know you will get some answers from guys that are far more experienced on these than I am. Good luck.

I didn't hear any grinding or anything. And yes it is a top loader so I didn't have to deal with linkage.

I was in 3rd when it went out. So I tried to shift up to 4th which didn't work. So after slowing down and trying other gears, I have 1,2 and 5th gear. 3rd and 4th don't click when you shift or anything, it's like their not even there.

Thanks

Allan

T-5 linkage

Allen,

I just looked at my book and the exploded view of the T-5 and it would almost seem you may have a sheared pin or something but you are past my knowledge now as I have always had a fear of tearing into a transmission. Some of the others will certainly be able to help you out, but I am sure you are going to have to pull the tranymission regardless of what went wrong. When you find out post it and that way the rest of us will know what to look for if we ever have that type of misfortune.

Thanks for your help Ron, I was pretty sure I would have to pull the trasmission, but like you I don't want to either. This will be my first transmission rebuild maybe...

And to the previous post, I don't sell the cards just the membership. If you go to my website it will explain it all. Thought I would let some of my cobra friend here in on a good idea. Yes you make commissions on the membership, but it sells itself.
