Quick Disconnect Steering Wheel
 
Am thinking of using a quick disconnect steering wheel to aid in anti theft. Is anyone using such as setup? Make and price?

My car has the early Jag XJ6 steering column complete with turn signal switch and collapasable mechanism. Behind the hub boss there is a large nut that when loosend off allows the steering wheel to be moved back and foward. If this large nut is completely undone the whole steering wheel and boss can be easily removed. A handy anti theft method. :3DSMILE:

I had one, it wasn't by design, just a loose spleen connector, suggets you all check yours.

Try Finish Line Motorsports
 
Finish Line is a Shelby dealer located near SAI in Las Vegas. They have a quick disconnect unit. Also, try some of the imported car parts dealers. Aftermarket wheels like Momo and some german brands are available with quick disconnect hubs.

I am working with a racing team for the summer and I will check what unit they run tomorrow. It is a very stout unit with no slop.

I'm using a Rebco brand splined QR hub with the flange release mechanism. Of the brands I was able to see for myself, the Rebco splined hub had the tighest feel to it. Other brands had "spline rattle" which would make the car feel as though it needed a steering rack rebuild...

I also prefer the flange type mechanism over a spring loaded release pin. Personal preference I suppose...

Price? I bought it here in Australia, but I think it's pretty cheap in the US compared to SPA or other similar brands.

I've found that there are unpleasant tradeoffs in the choice of adapters. The spline-type tend to be tighter, but the steering wheel is a PITA to replace to its original position. I haven't found a hex-type that was slop-free, and even the splined ones are not perfect.
