Girling slave cylinder for Contemporary
I have an '89 Contemporary with a 427 and need a replacement Girling slave cylinder. It has a casting number of 64677019 b51, but I was told that doesn't mean a thing. All the major Cobra web sites do not stock that part, and the part stores/ web sites need to know what kind of vehicle it came off of. Any help as to what I can do to get a new or rebuilt one.

Dump that Girling and get a CNC slave cyl. My Girling lasted a few yeard before it gave out. The CNC is available directly from CNC or most speed shops. The CNC is less expensive and made in USA Cranky:) |

Cranky is correct.....Screw the rest and just order a CNC slave cylinder, part #350 (pushing slave). Order the plunger too. CNC Inc San Diego, CA 619-275-1663 JM |

What are the specs on this cylinder? (stroke and size or recommended master size) I'd like to print/save this thread for future use should I need one down the road. - Jim - |

The CNC unit is great, it has a C retaining clip that many slave don't have. This is helpful in case folks depress the clutch too far. That sometimes causes slave failures too. The bore is stainless steel, it has a 1.125" push, it has an .875" bore. CNC is a great company to do business with. JM |

Search the forum under CNC for the answer.. I had this problem two months ago.. We fully documented the process.. part numbers.. everything. I thought my cylinder was a girling.. It wasn't.. Turns out in 1988 girling parts were hard to get.. The guy that built my car had sourced it locally and it was from a chevy..
DO buy the CNC rod.. It may need to be cut down but it's cheap insurance.. Also spend the $8 and order the rebuild kit.. I love mine.. Regards, |

Thanks for the great info. I reviewed the thread you sent and saw the CNC slave cylinder on the AFCO web site. This leaves me with a new question: How do I mount the new one since the mounting bracket is different than the old Girling? The old one has both bolt holes in the mounting bracket on the same side of the slave cylinder. The CNC unit has a bracket with one bolt hole above and one below the unit. Obviously I will have to fab a bracket for the new one to fit but I don't have a lot of room to work with. Any suggestions would be a big help. :confused: |

Get yourself a piece of angle iron just slightly larger than the CNC slave. Use the old bracket as a pattern for the block/bell housing mount. Mount the CNC in the same plane as the girling. Try to get a piece of 3/8 stainless angle. Hard to drill and tap but you won't have to paint and it will never rust. Hope this helps, Cranky:) |
I didn't tap mine, but rather ran the bolts through the angle and the cylinder.. It works great.

Ah.....The light bulb comes on. Thanks for the help. I think I have a piece of stainless angle in the garage that will work just fine. |
