Electrical Help Needed in Minneapolis

I have no idea what I am doing when it comes to wiring an engine (first time for me). Is there a good Samaritan out there who could lend me a hand.

Here is what I have
Everett-Morrison 427 Replica
Ford 351w engine
The wiring harness was supplied by E-M

The dash is wired (I am fairly confident I did this right).
The harness has been routed into the trunk and engine bay.
I am not sure what needs to be hooked up on the alterantor, coil, starter, etc..
Do I need a voltage regulator? If yes, what part number do I ask for at the local auto parts store?

Thanks in advance!

Did E-M supply a wiring diagram with color codes? If you are using the Ford alternator you will need a voltage regulator. Give me a call and I'm sure I can help.

Don,

Yes, I have the wiring diagram from E-M (with color codes). The alternator says Motorcraft. It looks like this.

Thanks,
Mark

If that is your Alt. then you already have your Voltage Reg.on it.
Its the silver box on the back.Just run a#10 or#8 wire from Batt lug on Alt. to the Batt.
side of starter Sol.I think the orange wire is just for the low Volt Light if you want one.

Hope this helps,

Eric

My alt is the same as pictured. My orange wire just hangs there and is hooked to nothing. Only problem I have with this alternator is that it will not charge right after start up at low RPM. I have to rev the motor to approx 3,000 to excite the voltage regulator.

The orange wire is for a warning light and therefor you probably won't have it hooked up to anything. I'll e-mail you a page from my prodesign wiring harness from my Unique wiring harness book that explains all of the hook ups to your alternator. I don't have an answer as to why your alternators won't charge at low rpms.

I guess I can't e-mail you since you don't have an e-mail set up on CC.

Believe it not that alternator warning lamp wire dangling there caused my TR6 to have the problem you have. The self-excitation RPM for that car was 2500 RPM. The light included in the circuit made it behave normally.

Thanks for the help with the alternator wiring. It almost makes sense to me now. How should the warning light be hooked up?
