How did I mess this up...
I ran fuel line from my master cyl. resevoir to the clutch master. As my fluid turned dark and the line got soft I realized the error and bought the proper hose and new brake fluid. Since the resevoir also feeds the the dual tilton brake masters I decided to bleed the entire system. Brakes bled no problem... However I can not get any fluid into the clutch master. With the bleed open{out actually} I can not even blow air through the hose into the cyl. The piston moves easily since it has no fluid but regardless of piston position it will not allow any fluid in. Everything worked great before I changed the hose and had no problem filling the system the first time. I hope I'm missing something simple:3DSMILE:

Bleeding Problems
It is quite posible that a piece rubber from inside the hose sloughed off and is covering the actual inlet port to the master cylinder bore. Bench bleed the master cylinders before installation.
Take it apart and inspect it. This is an area that you don't want any compromises. Good luck Rick |
Thanks Rick, I was thinking that also but was hopeing not to have to remove the M.C. Does anyone know if blowing air into the bleed valve to see if that clears the obstruction would be safe?

Clyde,
I had a similar problem. I used a big medical syringe filled with brake fluid and connected it to the slave cylinder bleed screw. This way, I forced fluid backwards through the system and cleaned out all the bad stuff and all the air, too. All I can say is it worked very well for me. Paul |
Thanks Paul, that certainly sounds like something to try first.

I have a Cobra R master cyl for brakes and had to bench bleed it before it would accept fluid the normal way. You have to push in the piston while forcing fluid in the outlets whith a siringe like Paul said. Good luck

The solution
I have rarely been disappointed by sleeping on a problem and focusing on the unintended consequences of my actions. A couple of months ago I decided to eliminate the play at the top of the clutch travel by threading out the linkage on the piston rod. Although I did not see the piston depress, apparantly a miniscule movement blocks the channel to the resevoir. As soon as I disconnected the linkage it started to gravity bleed. If I had not used the wrong line, I would not have found this out and effectively would have run with no resevoir-not good I'm sure. Strange how things work out%/ Thanks again for your help.

What about a power bleed?
Brake shops can power bleed your system without removing the master cylinder. You would have to trailer or tow it down there however...Anyone tried this on their cobra as a last resort?

Clive:
Glad it all worked out. I had close to the same problem with the hose supplied by Tilton. Finally went to Teflon lined braided hose. Came by today but the door was closed. John W. |
Sorry I missed you John, I took the car out with a friend and was tearing chunks of asphalt out of 150 towards Casitas:3DSMILE:
