100 Octane Storage

I'm running 100 octane in my car however the only station that pumps it is 45 mins from me. So, I decided to get a 15 gallon (Jaz) heavy duty plastic jug. It has a very tight seal ( O ring) and does not leak any fluid or even vapor for that matter.
I have been told that the fuel will "go bad and loose it's octane level" if I keep it in anything other than a metal container. Is this true ? I mean, I know over several months it would, but how'bout a couple weeks ?? Thanks in advance.

NEVER LIFT

Agro1,

Fuel storage in plastic tanks or cans is the norm for all of the World rally guys, bike racers, and SCCA folk.

The HDPE fuel containers are fine. the only problem will be the outgassing of volitiles over time through the plastic.

When I say over time, I mean 60>90 days. You can certainly go longer, but certain aromatics will be lost and this will effect vapor pressure and the combustion process therein. (read: lower octane rating, maybe a point or two)

In other words, do not worry about it. Your motor is not a F1 motor. It can live with much worse stuff then you might think.
