Salisbury Rear and Mobile 1

1 Attachment(s)
I recently changed the cover of my Salisbury (e type) rear end and decided to use Mobile 1 gear lube when I put it back together. I took it for a spin afterward and every time I went into a corner or made a turn I got a pretty significant chatter out of the clutch plates.. It didn't like the Mobile 1 at all..

I went back to Valvoline 80w/90 GL-5 and it is fine.. So much for exotic fluids.. I am still planning on running Mobile 1 in the top loader as I do in the FE, I will let you know how it works out.

I needed to replace the drain plug while I was in there. The threads are 3/4" US pipe and I found a really cool brass recessed pipe plug ala 427 SO freeze plug style at my hardware store.. The salesman handed me the iron plug for $1.29 and then the cool brass plug.. He said, This one is $2.49.. kind of expensive, and you need a really big allen wrench to get it off.. I took two and just smiled.. The 9/16 allen wrench was $4.99 made in the USA.

A $10 cobra repair, tool included and I get a brass drain plug? Life is good.

SCOBRAC:
You will have better luck with Red Line lubricants than Mobil1 in transmissins and rear ends! They have products exactly suited to each component. MTL worked very well in my Tremec. Save the Mobil1 for the crankcase.
