Superformance seats
 
I am thinking of buying an early (100 series) Superformance Cobra. I have driven an earllier model and had a blast but I am concern with the fatigue/uncomfortable factor on long trips. The problem is shifting because I am 6 ft. , 240 Lbs. and wear size 12 shoes. Are there modifications/ideas that could help me make driving/shifting easier ? Thanks. This is a great web-site.

If you purchase a 100 series Superformance, you can upgrade the foam in the bottom cushion like many have done. This helps alot. You can also purchase the new seats that Superformance now uses since the 300 series cars. For a dealer near you , call 1-800-29-SNAKE.

Those seats are the best out there in cobras. They actually have webbing instead of just foam. The later model SPF's have a lowered footbox which gives you more footroom to move those size 12's. I am 6'-3" and wear size 11 1/2 shoes and have no problems driving SPF's in workboots. It just takes a little time to get used to driving these little cars. If you can, drive a SPF that's a little newer, they have more room.

Guys; I would be cautious with those size 12 shoes (work boots). I'm 6'1" , 265 pounds, and size 13 shoes. I drive bare footed all the time so I can feel the break and gas petals. A long time ago I got into trouble trying to stop a car. I kept going while pushing on the break petal. I was wearing sailing boots at the time, and I didn't know that my boot was hitting both the break and gas petals. I rear ended a car (minor bumper damage). I thought my breaks were bad and it was only me. Ever since, I drive with my shoes off. I always drive my FFR without shoes. Cobras react very fast, and I need to feel the car at all times. Be careful with those work boots or heavy shoes. (MHO)

I bought a pair of Simpson driving shoes. They are very comfortable and are priced under 100.00..

as has already been mentioned, you can add 2" of foam to lower seat cushions on older cars for more comfort, or upgrade to the new seats. I added the 2" of foam to my SPF #156 and have had no fatigue or back problems on two 5 hr one way trips. However, if your leg length is a problem (I am vertically challenged so no issue with me) then you should try a newer car with the recessed footwells. some taller folks manage to drive the older cars, some prefer the newer lowered footwell versions. you need to drive one of each and see for yourself. good luck. bill.

Thanks for all the great responses. I'll definitley look forward to an opportunuity to drive a newer car. The seat upgrade sounds like a good idea. The biggest problem I see now is the closeness of the Brake, Clutch and accelerator pedal. The best cure is more seat time.

I would look into the retro fit thing first.The 300 series cars had lower floors than their predecessors.200 series seats will go into a 100 series car.I have done this.There is a possiblity that the 300 series seats are a no-go w/o floor modifications.I have car #126.

The seats from a 300+ will fit in earlier SPF's. All floor mods are in front of the forward seat mounts.

Super responses. I also talked to a SF dealer and owner of an early car that said the seats in the earlier models can be canted. This would require re-drilling and remounting the seat and would take all but thirty minutes to accomplish. It is stated one could gain an extra couple of inches and allow better geometry/alignment for operations of the clutch and brake. Has anyone yet made this mod ? It was also mentioned that this geometry is currently being used in the new models. Any truth to this ?

Yes. You can also remove the seat slider tracks for another 2" of room.
